Every moment of every day, important decisions are being made.

This may sound overly dramatic until you realize – in fields like the military, medical field, or even government, one second of a difference can save a life. This is why communing with God could be important. God knows the thoughts of man

Thankfully, it’s not up to just man to make decisions. God is in control and is sovereign over many things. These pieces of paper are only fragments of what is really going on – Jesus is actually in control of all of these things.

It’s often the case that we doubt or hesitate in times God is calling us to do something. Maybe He’s teaching us how to respond to Him so that we can be ready in those moments where action really matters!

I’m actually saying this to open eyes to the importance of communing with God and hearing His voice, which can sound different I think depending on what He has called you to. Works prepared in advance – even before you were born, God saw you being knit in your mother’s womb.

“For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.”

Inside of each Christian is the Holy Spirit, who is Himself God – the same Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead.

I think we underestimate sometimes the importance of what God can do through prayer. There’s: praying for individuals, praying for small things, praying for businesses in the community. Sometimes, praying for small things can provide the reminder that God is with us in order to pray about bigger things.

Think about praying for military personnel – there are people across the globe right now who could use a single prayer to save their lives. “God I pray for that person in Afghanistan who literally, right now, whose lives would be saved by a simple prayer.” Give them protection. God literally opened my eyes to this.

However, some us don’t realize how monumental spiritual things are either. What makes Jesus different from Allah and the Jewish God? There is a spiritual war going on inasmuch as a physical war, in which people are being confused. “Keep close watch over the doctrine, that you may save both yourselves and your hearers”

“Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.”

Evangelism:

Spiritual influence can impact major governmental or organizational decisions. At just the right time, someone may hear the Gospel, and with God, that would lead to a new believer being born!

Court cases:

What if a court case happens where an actually innocent person is imprisoned for 40+ years? This is another way prayer could protect people and lead people to make the best decisions – by how God administers justice!

Romans even calls those in authority “servants of God” for our own good!

“Therefore it is necessary to submit to authority, not only to avoid punishment, but also as a matter of conscience. This is also why you pay taxes. For the authorities are God’s servants, who devote themselves to their work.” Romans

~~ This does not mean be a slave to the surrounding area. It means acknowledging God’s authority. If we always did what man wanted without ever considering God, we would not be obedient followers of Jesus! So, we do need to pay attention to both while being considerate of God as the ultimate Judge and Advocate of His followers. You could be a part of a monumental decision because of submitting to Him!

Sometimes, we aren’t sure of what to pray for. This is when the Spirit helps us in our weakness:

“We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will” (Romans 8:26-27).

This is an amazing truth. Intercessory Prayer is a man-made term, but notice here how the Holy Spirit (not a man but the Holy Spirit) intercedes for US.

If there’s anything I would say, throughout your day .. be expectant for God to answer prayer.

  1. Hello Jake! I love all the thought that you have put into this blog on prayer. I agree our prayer is very powerful and should be an important part of our time spent communing with the Lord.
