Evangelism

One of the goals of evangelism is to present the Gospel in a way that reveals God’s love for the individual or the group.

A core element is love. The Gospel comes with many other elements though as well.

Reading through Romans this morning reminded me of the steps that God took me through when showing me His heart for the world.

In Romans, God shows how at just the right time, Christ died for the ungodly.

“For at just the right time, while we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. “7Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. 8But God proves His love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans  5:6-8

Sometimes, we will remember that there are unbelievers who do actually do good. It even says here, “very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man ..”. This is a slight point I want to make: I think you can pursue righteousness as an unbeliever, but it will not lead to reconciliation. God’s Word tells us what leads to reconciliation, or peace with the Father:

“For if, when we were enemies of God, we were reconciled to Him through the death of His Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through His life! 11Not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, so also death was passed on to all men, because all sinned.”

And it’s not by the old way of the written code that we serve God but by the Spirit. (Romans 7:6)

One of the major aspects to include when sharing the Gospel I think is to first recognize how Christ has first loved you. We are poor in spirit when first coming to Christ, and He is the only way to be reconciled to God.
